The Right Timing
In a matter of days, I will meet my son.
Even writing those words feels sacred. I’d be remiss if I didn’t say I was in the feels! The nervousness. The newness. The grace. The joy! It’s all sacred. Over the past few days, God has been giving me small glimpses of what’s ahead. Not the whole picture all at once, but little pieces — like He’s gently preparing my heart for the moment that’s coming.
The little things have made the most impact, like: a thought here…quiet reassurance there…and a sense of peace that reminds me He’s already gone before me.
This time feels different, though.
I have children, but this is the first time I’ve really sat with the reality of the pain of birth. When you’ve experienced it, you know what your body must walk through to bring life into the world — the stretching, the intensity, the surrender. And I’ll be honest… it makes me a little nervous.
But in that place, God began to show me something deeper. Birth is one of the clearest pictures of how He works in our lives.
In His intentional design, God shows us that stretching comes before beauty, and pressure often comes before we hold the promise in our hands. Before the joy fills the room, there is a moment where you must surrender completely.
You cannot rush birth. Timing is everything!
You cannot control it. We are not completely in control!
You can only trust the process your body was created to walk through. You’ve done this before!
And isn’t that how life with God often works?
Pain is Temporary
Sometimes, He is birthing something new inside of you — a calling, a new level of obedience, a deeper faith, a new version of who you’re becoming. And just like natural birth, it often comes with stretching, discomfort, and moments where you wonder if you’re strong enough for what’s ahead. God never places something inside of us without also giving us the grace to carry it.
And when the moment comes, we must surrender. A yielding. A willingness to trust Him through the pressure and the unknown.
Scripture says in John 16:21 (NLT), “It will be like a woman suffering the pains of labor. When her child is born, her anguish gives way to joy because she has brought a new baby into the world.”
The pain was never the end of the story. It was the passageway. And in the coming days, I will walk through that passageway again. Through the nerves…Through the surrender…Through the holy moment where heaven entrusts another life into my arms.
There’s Grace
And on the other side of it, I will finally meet the little one God chose for our family. What a grace it is to carry life — physically and spiritually — and to trust God with both.
Maybe you’re in a season right now where God is stretching you… asking you to surrender… calling you into deeper obedience while something new is forming inside of you.
Let the pressure remind you that something beautiful may be closer to being born than you think. Trust me, if God allowed the stretching, it’s because something beautiful is ready to be born. As I prepare to meet my baby, I remember that God creates new things in our lives, in our hearts, and through our obedience. Take heart—your time to deliver is closer than you think.
I’d love to hear… what new thing do you believe God is bringing forth in your life?
